Blog hacking alert

Thanks to a group of vigilant students for alerting me to the fact that I left my blog open last week. This was very unprofessional and disorganized of me and I hope it is a lesson to all involved to be aware of personal information on public computers. It is good to hear the confidence they have in their abilities as a designer.

Tuesday, 12 March 2013

I have read all the student blogs. Really interesting project ideas, I look forward to following the progress of the design. Make sure you have described the project idea in detail as well as your concept.
Site & services analysis of the site is due today.

week 4 - major project job file

You are required to record and evaluate the process of completing the design project you are working on in "design large scale commercial interiors". This will include:

Stage 1: Planning
·          Estimated work schedule/ timeline - create a Gantt chart timeline that includes all phases of the design process for your major project (week 1 - 18, semester 1, 2013). Make notes on a copy of this schedule with ACTUAL time spent on each stage of the project.
·          Timesheets - to record the actual amount of time you spend on each stage of the project.
·          Write a contract and fee proposal for your client

Stage 2: Implementation Document and record the process to be used to achieve design realisation. Records will include:
·          Design blog – keep this to record the progress of your work and any feedback you receive (see notes page for detail).
·          A record of correspondence with suppliers and any other stakeholders (in your blog or copies of emails).
·          Documentation of existing ground floor toilet spaces. Refer to notes page for detail

Stage 3: Liaise and negotiate
Keep documents that show you are maintaining the original design integrity whilst negotiating design revisions with teachers:
·          Include copies of drawings or photos of drawings presented at each stage of the project (w8,10,13)  with feedback notes from these sessions.
·          Reflect on this feedback on your design blog (see notes page for detail).
·          Meeting minutes - Include documentation from the peer meetings in class.
·          Correspondence with:
·          Client – one  letter or email informing them on the progress of the project & confirming information agreed on at the    last meeting (project variation)
·          Builder – one letter or email informing him of the project variation agreed on at client meeting.

Stage 4: Evaluation and Presentation
·          Present the final solution to the client (week 18 final verbal presentation) in a clear, professional manner.
·         Write an evaluation of the final design outcome against the original brief and project specifications on your blog.

Presentation/Submissions:
A4  ring binder with all exercises completed.
Include a cover sheet , contents list & tabs for each section
Professional presentation is essential.

Manage Design realisation

Design blog
·         Create a blog using any of the free online blog templates such as blogspot.
·         Your blog must be for professional (tafe) use only. This is not a forum for social detail or conversations!
·         I will follow your blog to check your progress. You should also follow each other.
·         My blog is: xallsep@blogspot.com
·         Record the progress of your work and any feedback you receive on a weekly basis.
·         You should make at least one entry a week
·         Record any correspondence with suppliers and other stakeholders
·         Reflect on any feedback given on your major project on your design blog -  how you will implement the feedback without losing the integrity of your design? Also make notes on why you will not implement some of the feedback (justify your own ideas)
·         Evaluate the final design outcome against the original brief and project specifications on your blog.

Workplacement

Work placement is a great way to meet people in industry. Often work experience can lead to a paid job.
You should write a list of design companies that you would like to work for. Research the ones whose work you admire.
